Floorplay Intensive (in person) with Kristen Holleyman
4 Sundays 1-3 pm at Block 1750 (Boulder, CO)
In person intensive (not online)
Building from concepts introduced in our last session, this Floorwork class will amplify patterns through yielding, sending and pushing, as we partner with the floor. Inversions, spiraling, and off vertical axis play will be incorporated through different levels in space. Emphasis on efficiency will be encouraged through somatic awareness as we navigate gravity and momentum. Our goal is to safely challenge the body in this balance of dynamics, in both power and release. Techniques influenced by Mexican Contemporary Floorwork and Breaking will be offered through a blend of improvisational exploration and phrase work.

About the Instructor:
Kristen Holleyman, a movement artist grateful to be based in the sacred Rocky Mountains of Boulder, CO, explores themes of Spirit-consciousness, ecofeminism, mental health and transformation on momentary, personal, global and historical scales. As founder and director of Embodied Arts (co)LAB, her choreographic works have been presented at festivals in Mexico, the United States, and Portugal. Kristen is a teaching artist who honors the well being of the mind/body/spirit of students, while offering spaces of rigor, undoing, and exploration. She has 15 years experience teaching locally, nationally, and internationally in studios, schools, master classes, workshops, and university courses, as well as with Spanish-English bilingual, at-risk, and special needs communities.
In Spring 2020, she earned her M.F.A. in Choreography and Performance from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with an emphasis in multimedia performance and somatics. As a performer and collaborator, Kristen has created with artists, filmmakers, and movement collectives in the Los Angeles area such as The Iris Company, Intersect Dance Theatre, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre, Daft Punk, Mya, Lawrence Rothman, Justin Gum, Craig Baurley, and currently performs with Chadash Contemporary Dance Movement in Broomfield/Sacramento. Kristen extends her immense gratitude and honor to all of her teachers for passing down their sacred gifts of movement, which live on in her practice and teaching every day. She is dedicated to an embodied practice and teaching that cultivates freedom and sanctuary of the body/mind/spirit, through radical care in self love, empathy, potentiality, healing, empowerment, and reclamation as a female movement artist.
